    They were probably burning off because it was a low danger time. Either that or some idiot translated "low fire danger" to mean "light a fire anywhere and ignore it".

    Obviously, it's when the fire is threatening their beer, that the Australians consider the fire danger to be "very high" or "extreme". Silly Americans, don't we know anything? :)
