However I'd note that some of the statements made in the post are factually inaccurate - for example the fact that land is held under customary tenure is most definitely NOT something that distinguishes Polynesian Solomon Islanders from Melanesian Solomon Islanders - it is in fact something that is common throughout the Pacific, in Melanesian, Polynesian and Micronesian contexts.  Most of Solomon Islands is held under customary tenure.  That gets me to the other point, which is about poverty - sure, people in Rennell and elsewhere in Solomon Islands might not have cars, electricity etc, but the fact that land has remained under customary tenure means that they have a fair degree of food security.
